A couple of weeks a go, I threw a end of uni party in our basement. Good friends (and the brilliantly talented) ska band Two Steps Twice played a set, and absolutely aced it. The atmosphere was incredible..my only criticism was I wish they could’ve played longer! Have a listen to their tracks on their myspace.
As my three years at uni come to a close , I still refuse to believe that I won’t see Chloe everyday. I’ve never been so close to anyone: I can tell her anything and she would never judge, we can dance like twats together and not give a damn, and she looks after me when I’m ill….plus, who’s gonna leave crisps on my bed when I come in from a night out?! oowwwwwwwh, I’m gonna miss you.
This year, I’m off to camp again. Last summer I worked as a Video Arts Specialist, which I loved, but this year I’ll be working at the same camp as a counsellor. As a counsellor I won’t be teaching, but instead will be looking after and living with a group of the kids, going around all the different activities in the day, and helping with daily activities such as getting up in the morning (something I need to improve on myself!). I really hope some of these girls are back, every single day they would have me in tears laughing! Can’t wait to go back.
Last Thursday, the kids we’ve been teaching at Lincoln Castle Academy got into the Siren Studios and broadcast their half hour live show, Music Alley. The programme, with all its content organised, recorded and editing by the students, had an interview with Tim Johns (in charge of BBC Introducing in Lincolnshire), a pre recorded session with young singer songwriter Emily Gordon, and ten essential festival tips for the upcoming summer.
The kids took charge of everything whilst broadcasting live, without any input from any adults. They were absolutely fantastic, taking charge and producing a very professional programme! I was so unbelievably proud of them, watching all their hard work and commitment to the programme really pay off. Well done guys!
‘The Way We Talk’ is finished! Sarah and I have been working on the 37 minute documentary for the past few weeks, as part our final year project studying Media Production at Lincoln University. We travelled to Nottingham, London and York recording contributors for the programme, exploring the history and attitudes towards different British accents.
Have a listen to the finished version on our blog! We would like to thank everyone who helped Sarah and I produce the documentary, we loved every second and met some lovely people along the way.
Finding new apps is a pretty new thing for me, and recently I’ve found two that I absolutely love.
The first one is called ‘Facemixx’. This app takes two photos of different faces and puts them together to make one face. It’s ridiculous, sometimes scary and usually hilarious! I have witnessed a friend use this app and have a nose bleed from laughing, just by looking at the final face!
The second one is called ‘Thumbs’. This is where you can ask the world your own questions, with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. People vote with either a thumbs up or a thumbs down, and within minutes you can have up to 100 people vote on your question. With the right questions, it is hilarious! A great simple idea that is very user friendly.
The blog for our radio documentary is up and running! Click the link to keep up to date with our progress.
For our final year radio project, Sarah and I are creating a radio documentary called ‘The Way We Talk’. The documentary will be exploring attitudes towards different regional accents in Britain, the history of these accents and how a strong accent can effect a persons life on a day to day basis.
Follow our Twitter page to keep up to date with the production.
As part of our final year, we can opt to go into a local school once a week to create three live broadcasts for Siren 107.3 (a community radio station on campus). At the moment we are in the planning stages, organising what skills we want to teach and how we are going to develop the students ideas into real radio broadcasts! Once we have the blog up and running, I’ll be posting up a link…cannot wait to be back in the classroom!
